Wind Wraith

0 comments on this post
A dark, strange creature with it's hair (I think? I forgot lol) acting as a tail as it sweeps through areas. It's meant to look odd and somewhat familiar. He was an edit of the first character on the "Evil" charsheet.

I'll have some more variants and frankensprites of this in my game, but it's up to you to make your own. Any requests? Most of what I've made won't be released to the public unless you ask. :)

Dark Faeries

A good creature turned bad. These play a (very minor) role in LHA. One of the mini-quests in the Mana Fields involves you protecting the last tree from waves of them.

Magma Bat

A new monster character for you readers this fine evening. Why settle for an ordinary bat when you can have one made out of fire?

Run, the muckman is coming!

0 comments on this post
A treat today after yesterday's weak update. Here's a fishman creature I designed based on some of what's common in the horror scene. I call him the muckman, they play a small role in LHA and will have a couple mini-dungeons dedicated to them.

This is only a preview of the post.

Dev Advice

Take hints from older games in your genre. Generally people had a reason for designing things the way they did, and already wasted plenty of time thinking about other gameplay options you may be considering.

Dungeon objects

0 comments on this post
Today's assorted update is some assorted dungeon additions. These are more variants you can use for switches, wall decorations, levers, and such that might fit a non-normal area. Most of them were also inspired by classic horror pieces to help decorate the areas, however none of them are particularily scary or spooky.

This is only a preview of the post.

Why settle for the usual potions when you can give your players items with different names? A simple switch like this can help make your game stand out & be unique. However, don't go overboard, people are used to the traditional RPG conventions and things being easy to understand at first glance.

Tentacool

0 comments on this post
This is "inspired by HP Lovecraft & other weird horror stuff" week. Lots of tentacles! I went heavily in that direction while designing one of the LHA water dungeons. Today's offering is a tentacle character set.

LHA isn't the only commercial game we're working on! Hopefully one or two others will be available at the same time it's released. Fingers crossed, no promises.

Nakkuruman's charchips

0 comments on this post
Today's japanese resource spotlight is many characters made by Nakkuruman. His were popular with Rpg Maker XP, but is moving into doing some with Rpg Maker VX as well.

These are brought to us by japanese material creator Nakkuruman

Please read his terms for using his materials. I'm not going to link you directly to the Rpg Maker VX character resource collection, but it's easy enough to find with a translator. He also has plenty of popular Rpg Maker XP characters on his homepage. Some of them have specially created matching battlers over at Tori's site.

Help Wanted

I'm currently looking for a skilled, experienced musician or two to help with LHA. Paid work of course. Send me your samples via messages or even a comment here.

No such thing as too many orcs

More of the orc frankensprites again. Shopkeepers this time.

Whoever said only humans can sell junk to players? I tried adding a little beard to the first one, but it didn't turn out too well. Hairstyles could work very nicely on orcs if you increase the height a bit.

Did you know?

You can use the shift key to selectively place autotiles in the Rpg Maker VX editor. This saves a lot of time or can be used for many effects, try it!

People need a place to go

and things to guard it. Why settle for a regular guardsmen when you can have armored orcs? Comes in two varieties: Spear-wielding and spearless.

This is only a preview of the post.

Just a frankensprite of the originals, but I'll have real armored orcs later. They'll have a minor part in the story of LHA. I'd have prefered skipping orcs as they're very mainstream, but there's not enough pre-made art to ignore monster types.

Can't think of a better name for her! This lovely blue lass was just a quick edit of one of the RMVX Spiritual default charactersets.

Update: Now with a matching blue male companion.

Assorted skeletons

0 comments on this post
These were created for one of the areas of LHA. There's a tiny, friendly skeleton city which uses some of these for flavor and npc shopkeepers. None of these have animations (front view only). Also included are a blackened & capeless version of the default skeleton.

This is only a preview of the post.
Click the link or title to view the rest.
I believe most of these were simply frankensprites of the default Rpg Maker VX resources. The "dust skeletons" are one of four skeleton groups players can meet. The other three are hostile based on the elements of cold, electricity & fire. I might release the Rpg Maker VX animated skeletal character sets and the elemental varieties if there's any interest.

Ara Fell is an up & coming shareware RPG made in Rpg Maker XP. While it's still a long ways from release, they have some wonderful screenshots on their site. One of the best looking RMXP games I've seen.

PINEDAVX people

2 comments on this post
Tomorrow I'll start posting some of my own work now that the woman is back from her gambling trip with my laptop. It looks like characters & tilesets are in the lead, we'll start with those. :)

Today's material highlight is over 50 characters done by mr. PINEDAVX. You might recognize them from his shop/request post on vx.net. But you might not, as his sprites are exclusive to there and a blog he runs.

This is only a preview of the post.
Click the link or title to view the rest.

His blog has some characters he's made exclusive to it even if you've seen his work on another site before. The site doesn't start on a new entries page, but even a drunk dog should be able to find his charchips.

PINEDAVX is also available for commercial work at a very low rate if you're looking for someone to draw characters! Check his FAQ page for details.

Warning: Much of his work is fan characters people had requested. Use at your own risk, especially if you don't want to be labelled a fangame.

RH: Old faces return

0 comments on this post
I'll be using the weekends to highlight some great materials in the Rpg Maker VX community you might not have known about.

Today's first highlight is some wonderful japanese RMVX charactersets designed to look like the old RTP materials from previous Rpg Makers. There's almost 50 based on Rpg Maker XP, and a couple other sets from Rpg Maker 2000 or Rpg Maker 2003.

This is only a preview of the post.
Click the link or title to view the rest.

These are brought to us by material creator D•M

Unlike most of the japanese material websites, you don't need to use any translation tools to navigate it or find links marked "sozai"! Just click "Enter", then "Materials", and you'll find them soon enough. There's also some other misc graphics you might find useful.

He has requested that you be registered owners of both VX and the older Rpg Maker they were based on to use these characters.

ArtBane, Enkur and Volrath recently released Arc 5 (of 6) of their critically acclaimed Rpg Maker XP game series, Master of the Wind. This installment is very story-heavy and concentrates on the death knight Stoic's past. It also finally answers the question of the Sparrow's identity.
